“Recently when I was on call for the ER, a 39-year-old mother of four was admitted for a pelvic mass and pain. She was accompanied by her husband and teenage daughter. After analyzing the results of her imaging and laboratory tests, I had to explain to the family that she would need extensive, complicated surgery and intensive chemotherapy to start her battle with ovarian cancer. Knowing that her working family was underinsured, the patient’s daughter innocently asked me, ‘How expensive is chemotherapy?’”
— Dr. Peter Geittmann, MD

Over the last several decades, scientific and healthcare technology have made incredible advances, but our healthcare system is still lacking affordable and comprehensive care for all of our citizens.

Over his 35 years as a practicing obstetrician/gynecologist, Dr. Peter Geittmann continually encountered patients who simply could not afford the high premiums or deductibles of health insurers. When a catastrophic medical event occurred, financial resources were not adequate enough for these patients to afford desperately needed medical care for themselves, or for their children.

These unfortunate situations are at the very heart of why the Dr. Peter Geittmann Foundation was formed. The Foundation recognizes this disparity, and provides financial assistance to these individuals. The goal is to help these women and children focus on the treatment they desperately need, despite their financial circumstances.
